Sumas Protests B.C. Gravel Pit Proposal

SUMAS, Wash. – The City of Sumas is asking Governor Gregoire to help block a proposed gravel mine in Abbottsford, BC. Sumas officials fear it could impact the city’s aquifer and threaten the drinking water supply. The general manager of the planned operation says the city is acting on misinformation, and the 85-acre gravel pit would do no harm. The company says it has already mined 30-acres adjacent to the proposed site, and has encountered no issues.
